The city of Utica is strategically located in Oneida County at the foot of the within 500 miles of 17 of the top 50 U.S. markets. It is located at the foot of the Adirondack Mountains. Utica, New York is the county seat of Oneida County.

The City of Utica is situated within the region referred to as the Mohawk Valley and the Leatherstocking Region in Eastern New York State. Downtown Utica is located approximately 1.5 miles from the Thruway exit. Genesee Street is the major thoroughfare in Utica running from the Town of Deerfield to the north and the Town of New Hartford to the south and divides the city east and west.  

The Erie Canal, the Mohawk River, the New York Barge Canal, and the New York State Thruway pass through the north part of the city. The city is adjacent to the border of Herkimer County, New York. The weather in Utica is seasonal. The mean daily temperature in January 20.3 F - July 70.1 F.
